Flexible working is set to increase significantly in the months ahead, according to a report published this week by Optus. Titled the Future of Work, the report highlights how innovations in technology such as tablets and faster broadband access will create more flexibility and productivity.
Although this report is based on the views of HR professionals and IT executives from mid to large-sized firms these trends are also being felt (perhaps even more so) by small businesses across Australia. Gone are the days when ‘doing business’ meant sitting in an office. Today business isn’t about where you do it. It’s about what you do.
And we should know. We’ve always encouraged Upstream employees to get out into the field, talk face-to-face with customers and spend time in their business to get a truly deep understanding of the challenges they face. After all, there’s only so much you learn from a telephone or email exchange.
The great thing about developments in technology is that employees can spend even more time out with customers while at the same time keeping in close touch with colleagues. For our customers, developments in technology mean they can enjoy the same benefits. Take our UTrack solution for instance. The technology offers real-time monitoring and reporting on printing habits so organisations can track who’s printing what. Because the technology is web-based organisations can access intelligence regardless of where they are. Perfect for those needing to keep a close eye on operations but don’t want to be chained to their desk.
No one knows what the future will bring, but one thing’s for sure. Technology is changing the way we do business so look forward and get ready to embrace a flexible future.
